AMNH: Cell to Cell Communication Lecture

I feel  very disturbed after going to the AMNH SciCafe tonight. I asked if a person's bacteria biome could dictate why that person reacts to different types of medications differently and was told that they don't believe so, but that there is still much they don't know about the interaction between the bacteria and our bodies.

So, I still don't know why I react so violently to modern chemical medications, while herbal ones seem to work and why my system is so weird. I don't know of anyone my age that still consumes as much calcium as I do, or who sleeps to get rid of illness.

My contraction of fifths disease (parvovirus B19) as a child, Epstein-barr virus as an adult, and subsequent partial-paralization and immune issues due to complications from the medicine the doctor prescribed makes me concerned that there were lasting effects that are not normal. Codine, oxicodine, amoxociline, morphine, die-contrast, cigarette smoke, capsicum, onion and garlic oils, etc. They all cause me to have severe allergic reactions, and yet, I don't have the typical autoimmune symptoms like asthma and I no longer have anemia (a meat rich diet kicked that issue), so I don't think I am a 'normal' test case. Is this paranoia or am I on to something? I don't know and it makes me nervous.

We went to the AMNH for my birthday and saw Bats!

Snow, Slush, and Vampire Bats

On top of Hurricane Sandy (which screwed up the subways, but nothing else in our area), yesterday we got several inches of snow which promptly turned into slush and then ice. These are from my morning walk to the subway. See all the broken branches? 

Saturday is my trip to the museum. I'm going to see 2 IMAX showings (Creatures of Light and Flying Monsters) and the Bat exhibition. Not sure if P will be coming or not just yet. Depends on work.

And Bram Stoker (Dracula) was born today. That kinda makes me giggle when I think of the bats on Saturday. :)

Fly me to the Moon!

I'm going to the "Field Trip to the Moon" at the AMNH museum tonight. I'm very excited. :)

On a different note, my work may be going with my idea for our company Halloween Party: Alice in Wonderland/Children's Storybook.



I think Johnny can be plenty freaky.

American Museum of Natural History (9/15/12)

I went to the AMNH on Saturday and saw the Journey to the Stars IMAX at the Planetarium and walked around the Earth and Space and the Asian and African animals portion of the museum. I only had about 2.5 hours so I didn't get to see much, but that's why we have year long passes. Here are a few key photo's from the trip.
